Down And Loaded CD Release
It’s been a while since I’ve been out to shoot a local band play a show. There are a number of reasons for that, one of the primary ones being that the venues just aren’t great for photos due to poor lighting and other reasons. But when I heard that local band Down And Loaded were having a CD release show at the Belleville Club with the support of another great local band, Moon Sugar, I decided to go check it out. I hadn’t seen either band play live before, so it was a great opportunity to get out to a local show and maybe grab some photos.
The club has no stage, and is really not setup bands, although something about the room does give it pretty good acoustics (or so I’m told, I’m always wearing earplugs!) Luckily the band had brought in a lighting guy so I had something to work with. The lights weren’t completely setup when Moon Sugar started their set, and the light guy joked with me about how he was going to make the light better just for me. He did a good job, and the lighting was certainly leaps and bounds above the typical multi-colored, seizure inducing LED strobe I am used to seeing at local shows! The lack of stage can also be a problem. I really hate being in peoples way when trying to grab photos, so I had to squat and crawl around on the floor to stay out of sight. As it turns out, as I get older that kind of thing gets more uncomfortable!
Congratulations to Down And Loaded for such a great night. There was a great crowd there to see the show, and both bands played an amazing set. Go check them out for yourselves!
